Dilated Retinal Examination
A dilated retinal examination provides a more thorough examination of your retinal health. It is always performed in the case of reduced vision, visual concerns and individuals with certain medical conditions such as diabetes. This is the best eye test available for eye care providers to detect early eye disease, and is highly recommended to all patients. If your optometrist spots any eye health conditions during your comprehensive eye exam that requires further examination at that time, they may suggest that you upgrade to a medical eye examination. You would only be responsible for the difference in fee's between the two exams ($20.00).
Why doesn't eye-bar Optometry dilate every patients?
Ideally, we would like to perform a detailed retinal examination on everyone. However, not everyone has the time to perform this type of examination. Many of our patients visit us during their workdays, or drive to our clinic on their own. Dilated retinal examinations can make it hard to read at work, and may blur your vision for driving or make you light sensitive.
Eye Health
Regular eye health examinations are vital for preserving and protecting your vision. Did you know the eye is one of the only places doctor’s can view your blood vessels directly? An optometrist’s health examination of your eyes can provide indications of high blood pressure, diabetes and provide early indications of eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. Early detection of eye diseases is crucial for limiting vision loss as we age.
Some opticians and sites offer vision testing or sight testing. These test are not sufficient as they only check for eyeglasses but do not factor in your overall eye health; they are really intended to allow the optician to quickly dispense (sell) eyewear to the patient. eye-bar highly recommends having your eyes checked by an optometrist as a prescription for eyeglasses is only one aspect of an eye exam.
